Dear Mr Alan Cumming,
The Archives of Serbia and The Inter-Municipal Archives of Valjevo, under the auspices of Mr. Tomislav Nikolić, the President of the Republic of Serbia, are organizing the international conference titled “Suffering and Humanism. Valjevo Hospital 1914/1915” within the program marking the centenary of the foundation of the Valjevo Hospital. The Conference will be held in Valjevo, October 30-31, 2015.
It is our honor and pleasure to invite you to take a participation in the Conference.
Dr Miroslav Perišić, Director of the Archives of Serbia
We were delighted to be asked to do a presentation for the Royal Navel Base in Rosyth on the 3 rd of September 2015.
On arrival I was warmly welcomed by all. Leading Navel Nurse Sean Carruthers kindly gave me a guided tour of the base, an insight into the workings of the base and the many departments. A rare opportunity for me to look around and I was most privileged. After I was introduced to LT Rob Swift who had organised and booked the event, we went on to the conference room where the talk and film were presented to an enthusiastic audience.
The feedback was very positive from the officers, staff and Navel reservists who had come along. After the Q & A session I was thanked by Commander Pauline Small who not only had been impressed by the talk and film, but also expressed an interest in having us back in December. One of the objectives of the evening was to tell the story of nurse Mary Gray, a local lass who died during WW1 at Royaumont Abbey in France. Mary Gray’s headstone at Asnieres-sur-Oise near the Abbey is sadly in need of restoration work and Commander Pauline Small is as eager as ourselves to rectify this. It is hoped that perhaps some fundraising might take place. An excellent evening and it will be a pleasure to head back in December.
